Watt Watchers of Texas – a program supported by the Texas State Energy Conservation Office – enabled CPS Energy, the San Antonio municipal utility, to distribute timely energy savings resources to residents during the COVID-19 pandemic. Watt Watchers of Texas is an online STEM program providing energy literacy resources for K-12 students and teachers. It features materials on electricity, water, materials, heating and cooling, transportation, and food organized by grade level.
Residential energy bills are expected to surge as more individuals are staying home preventing the spread of COVID-19, and strategies to manage and understand energy use are vital. Watt Watchers can support caregivers looking for online teaching resources by providing lessons related to energy sources, the history of energy, and energy conservation. Activities include a home energy checklist and modeling public transportation usage. Watt Watchers of Texas is featured in the new Smart Energy Education website, a collaboration between CPS Energy and Itron, Inc shared with people of San Antonio, and is supported with funds from the U.S. Department of Energy State Energy Program.
State Energy Offices interested in promoting energy efficiency resources can find information on the NASEO website, including information on home energy labeling, building energy codes, and K-12 schools.
