At NASEO’s 2021 Energy Policy Outlook Conference, Congresswoman Lisa Blunt Rochester of Delaware addressed attendees of the 2021 NASEO Energy Policy Outlook Conference with a message of partnership: “States, the federal [government], territories – all of us have to work together” to advance clean energy.
Congresswoman Blunt Rochester shared details of the Open Back Better Act that she co-sponsored in 2020 with Minnesota Senator Tina Smith, which uses existing programs and funding mechanisms to direct energy efficiency and resiliency investments to mission-critical facilities such as hospitals, schools, and community centers. Citing devastating wildfires, hurricanes, and sea level rise, the Congresswoman added, “now more than ever, we need resilient infrastructure to combat climate-related disasters,” particularly in low-wealth communities and communities of color, which are disproportionately impacted by public health emergencies and natural disasters.
“NASEO is truly making an impact,” concluded the Congresswoman. “As someone who has served in state and federal government for the past three decades…I know that the work that you are doing makes a difference.”
