The New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) released the state's annual Clean Energy Industry Report, highlighting record-level clean energy employment and job growth, particularly in the alternative transportation and solar sectors. Clean energy jobs grew 4.7% overall from 2020 to 2021, and nearly all technology sectors met or surpassed pre-pandemic employment levels, helping support New York's economic recovery efforts. In addition to detailed clean energy employment data by sector and region, the report also includes employer survey data on hiring challenges, demographic trends, a summary of public and private clean energy investments, and an analysis of the direct and indirect economic development benefits of the clean energy industry in New York. As the state's clean energy economy continues to grow, NYSERDA is working to support workforce development and training opportunities for New Yorkers, particularly those from underserved populations, through partnerships and programs, such as on-the-job training and career awareness initiatives.
