On June 16, 2023, eight Northeastern states submitted a request to the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) to form a Collaborative on Interregional Transmission. This effort would seek to expand interregional ties, enhance system reliability, and support the clean energy transition by facilitating a partnership between the states, DOE, and the three regional transmission organizations in the Northeast. The partnership would explore opportunities for increased interconnectivity, including for offshore wind, throughout New England, New Jersey, and New York by leveraging the collective technical, policy, planning, and regulatory expertise of the different entities. It would also build on the work of the draft DOE National Transmission Needs Study and DOE Atlantic Offshore Transmission Study. The full proposal can be found here.
