On October 4, 2023, Connecticut Governor Ned Lamont announced the publication of Connecticut’s Offshore Wind Strategic Roadmap for economic development in the offshore wind industry. The roadmap was developed by a state coalition that included the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection, Department of Economic and Community Development, the Office of the Governor, and additional stakeholders. Some of the priority actions outlined in the roadmap include:
- Leveraging Connecticut’s deepwater ports to expand the state’s offshore wind marshaling, operations and maintenance, and other support capabilities.
- Increasing regional capabilities and coordination across the offshore wind supply chain with a focus on resiliency, equity, and affordability.
- Expanding Connecticut’s existing workforce development programs to ensure that local workers – including those in historically disadvantaged communities – can prepare for and connect with high-quality jobs in the offshore wind industry.
- Partnering with the state’s extensive network of innovative academic and investment institutions to promote research activities related to offshore wind.
To execute many of these actions and facilitate regional coordination, the Connecticut Wind Collaborative was launched. It includes leading industry experts and public and private sector stakeholders. For more information on the roadmap and collaborative click here.
